Bone Tumor
What it is?
A bone tumor is an abnormal growth of cells within the bone. These tumors can either be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
There are several types of bone tumors. Common benign bone tumor
s are osteochondroma, osteoclastoma/giant cell tumor known as GCT, Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC), simple bone cyst (SBC), Fibrous dysplasia, osteoid osteoma, etc. Malignant tumors include osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, and multiple myeloma. Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone cancer and usually affects children and young adults.
Symptoms
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of a bone tumor usually involves a combination of imaging tests (such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRI scans) and a tissue biopsy. Treatment options depend on factors such as the type, size, location, and grade of the tumor, as well as the patient’s overall health. Treatment may involve surgery to remove the tumor, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of these approaches.
